well we dont insure anyone under 19 at the mo so i dont really hear from any 17yr olds what they are paying these days tho, i would estimate nearer £2k tbh
best of luck tho, get some quotes and let us know how you get on!
-
you can get insured but it will cost more than £1500
-
/\/\/\ thats how much it would cost to insure a 1.3 never mind a gti
-
i have a black golf mk4 5door 2000 1.4 16v worth 4500 and im just 17.got insurance under my dads name getting my own no claims bonus with direct line for £1500 tpft or could have been £1800 fully comp. just a little information for you guys
-
be careful, not everyone accepts the NCB that direct line give you in that way, many places i called around said they wouldnt, and direct line said they werent sure either
-
golf gti mk2 8v is group 14, with no no claims, aged 17 and male (i assume) you would be looking at £2000-£3000 easily tpft
at 17 i had a 1.1 fiesta - £1300 tpft
it will come down a lot with 1 or 2 years no claims tho.
the problem you will have is that no insurance company will want to insure you - i had great difficulty at 18 trying to get an XR2i insured!
-
OK Thanks People  For All The Help & All The Best LOL
-
try www.easyinsurance4you.co.uk, i got my cheapest quote there 168 quid for a 16 v granted im 30 but thats cheap for fully comp, check around plus could get insured through your parents ;0)
-
So, If i get insured by my dad witch he will do...
Will it be alot cheaper...?
AND...
Is there any disadvantage from now to the future...?
-
I got quoted a very tasty £390 full comp from HIC a couple of days ago, thats with protected 5 yrs NCB and agreed value of £3500, sweet! (i'm 26 though)
-
on my 1.6 driver im the main name on the insurance. but have my mum on as a named driver. try and bring it down a bit. im 19 and payin around the 1800 mark. but does the area you live in affect the price as wel?
-
I Live In lobley hill, Gateshead... so i would say no lol

Depends on the insurer. Some companies will do it cheaper but many such as ourselves rate on the highest risk driver anyway so makes no difference.
Also insurance companies are getting wise to this so should they feel you "fronted" the risk ie took it in your dads name just to get it cheaper even tho you are the owner and main user they could refuse to pay in the event of a claim.
Disadvanteges for the future? You wont be getting your own no claims which as previously mentioned means your insurance will be high for years to come as many companies dont accept named driver no claims.
Hope that helps

quick question: would putting big bumpers on a mk2 golf which had small bumpers to start with count as a body kit or affect the insurance in anyway?

Just tell them it was a big bumper model and if they believe you shhh. :D
If you ask the insurance though I would image they would class that as a mod.

thats what i thought, i'll just say that it came with it. they won't know-hopefully
-
i had a gti when i was 18 and only cost £1200 with pass plus
and my mum as a named driver.
i'm 19 now and its around£600 before direct debit
-
Good luck. When I passed my test in October 05, they wanted £2200 to insure a 1.3 TPFT. I can insure a GTI when i'm 19 with 2yrs NCB for £1300 TPFT.
I personally wouldn't go on your parents name, you will regret it when you need to go on your own policy and find you won't be able to insure your GTI.
-
It is my policy but with my mum as a named driver. makes it cheaper!
Admiral or Elephant all the way for young drivers with no NCB!
