Post by: jettaTx on 18 February 2007, 22:10
Had the pleasure of replacing these today been putting it off for a while! They froze solid last week in the frosty cold weather! I managed to complete doint the drivers side cable &  decided next weekend would be a good bet to finish the passenger side! Mind the old one i took off was full of water so it's no woner it froze solid!

I put put some new cables on recently, but found that the cables were a bit too long.
A bit wierd really because I got new shoes, brake cylinders, spring set, brake drums, bearings, the lot.

The hand brake would go up 4 clicks with the cable nuts using the full thread. So I had to make a metal collar 10mm long, to fit over the plastic end of the cable (that fits inside the metal tubing by the centre exhaust box).

Works like a charm now, and I noticed your thread earlier so I greased it up like a Turkish wrestler. :)

Actually, while were on this subject does anyone know of a guide how to adjust/change these cables as my handbrake lever nearly touches the inside of the sunroof and even when fully on you could prob still push my car down the street

Cheers

just done mine this week outer cable had collapsed causing the inner to stretch haynes manual gives a farly acurate guide just a matter of undoing the nuts on the handbrake mech and gently easing cable out from under the vehicle  :nerd:

Just got a new cable from the motor factors (which when lined up with the one Ive just removed, is about 10 inches to long), so that will have to go back but

I could'nt just pull the old cable through because the thread thing, where you adjust it, was too big to feed through the sleeve that sits through the body and and out underthe car ( I had to cut the thread part off to pull it through) so how am I going to feed the new cable through up into the cab? I presume that sleeve by the heatshiled will have to go?

Any help much appreciated!

AHA, part of the old cable was stuck in the sheath thing! drilled out and sorted. New cable will feed straight through now!

 That is so annoying, I got a set of cables the other way round, had the chop the guide tubes so theres only about 10mm left sticking through the grommits! Took me about 4 hours to fit 2 cables!!!  And they still only just went on.
Would suggest a swap, but its a bit late now!!!
