Title: Mk2 Dipped Beam

hi all, I have just yesterday bought a 1989 VW mk2 golf. Its a 1.6 with weber carbs and bodykit etc. I have been having trouble finding dipped beam. I turn the head light switch fully on but only the side lights come on. when i click full beam, just full beam stays on. I was playing around trying to find dipped and i found that if i repeatly click full beam on/off it will sometimes swith to dipped but will then randomly click off and back to side lights. Can anybody offer me some pointer its rather annoying!!

Perhaps the switch in the indicator stalk is shafted ?

sounds more like a fault with the headlight switch, or the connections to the lights.
If you replace the switch, make sure you get one with the same number of pins as your old one!
