Car is looking fantastic - bet you can't wait to let her rip! Looks like someone has beaten it to you though!
-
By the way, is that the pearlescent black or normal black?
-
Hi illyun,
Car looks
Glad I chose the tinted windows like yours
First one I've seen with this option
I bet you're just itching to take her for a spin
Only 11 days to go
Enjoy
-
looks great in black doesnt it!
-
Looks good. Cooooooooool
-
Looks very nice. The privacy glass looks very good with the black.
Nice hat. But arn't you a bit young to drive!
-
Niiiiiiiiiiice.
The shot which was taken from behind..... it looks real nice with those tinited windows...... 'mean' looking.
Good luck with the wait, it will be agony!
-
im jelous  car looks great, slam it though!
-
Looks fantastic fella, but are you sure your old enough to drive
It'll look even better once they've removed the travel blocks from the suspension! I'm sure they look fitted in the pics?
-
looks too simular to a Normal GTI to me being all the same colour, except the wheels, but hope you enjoy your motor and dont miss the r32 too much and dont regret selling it for the edition 30
-
meow
looks great mate, the picture from the rear looks awesome, well mean....
i must say how much better the edition 30 looks compared to a normal golf gti lower powered thingy
-
Looks awesome. We should def all meet up in the summer....

Yep - Happy cleaning!
Funny i see from the Top Gear mag that the ED 30 gets marked down due to the painted body kit / wheels / price - Sometimes you just wish that these mags would just report on merit rather than the aformentioned!
-
Magazines are a good starting point but reading some of their reviews..... very odd. It's all down to individual taste, it's good to read a great review though and I guess it's all most have us have got until our cars arrive!
Car looks Great though and in my head I'm imagining it with 5 doors, hopfully it will look as good!
-
Car looks Great though and in my head I'm imagining it with 5 doors, hopfully it will look as good!
And yet you know it won't even get close....
-
I think the Golf is one of a very few cars that does look good in 5 doors. For me (having two children) I wouldn't even consider the 3 door after having a test drive in one, that seat is awful to move forward and even though I considered the 3 door (you save £500 at the end of the day) I just couldn't have lived with it. If it had been as easy as on my MK3 then I would have bought a 3 door.
For me the 5 door is great and certainly no comparison to the s-max I almost bought!

I agree,
I had an A3 mk2 2.0TDI DSG 3dr and it was nigh on impossible to get my ageing parents and in-laws in the car ..... let alone back out again....and don't get me started on trying to get the sisters kiddies chair in the back
-
My Mum and Dad had the same car, it was fantastic and my Dad loved it! They only kept it 3 months though (didn't lose any money mind you) because of the hard ride and the practicallity.
Great Diesel Engine though with 140bhp, I considered one against the E30 but we have one Audi Diesel in the household already and I still think I'm too young to buy another!
I have an old 1970 VW Camper if I want to be sensible(ish) The GTI is going to be great!
Is it here yet.....?
-

Nice one!

I think its a great idea... - my Ed 30 is going from the dealers straight into my garage and will stay there until the following work is done:
Boot Liner
Seat Covers – front and back except drivers
Autoglym Lifeshine
Stonechip Protection
Waxoyl everywhere - apart from the windscreen
Number Plate - bought a personalised plate for the car - E30 VW... beat that
Then it will come out on sunny days only.
And by the summer of 2008...
LSD
Re-Map - still wondering about warranty issues
Carbon Bonnet
Carbon Hatch
Carbon Side Mirrors
Carbon Skirting – replica
BBS Alloys Air II - not sure about these as I spoke to the guy at www.mstuning.co.uk
All mods reversible though - don't want to butcher the car...
-
Hi illyun,
Any ideas on where to source carbon bonnets?
-
Yup... I've found a supplier - I'll have to look their website up on my home PC and get back to you... if enough of us want one maybe we can get a reduced price.
-
Also Illyun, have you found a stone chip protection pack yet? I've looked into this but not come up with much other than ventureshield but I'm not convinced how invisible it is??
Are you getting seat covers with the wooden knobbly bits??
Finally... I assume you have got Autoglym Lifeshine for less than VW would offer it at? What is waxoyl?
-
I can't believe you bought that plate!!!
I looked about two weeks ago
E3 OVW £545 + Vat and Transfer fee!
I thought about it, mulled it over, asked a few people.... "GET IT BOUGHT" they said
I went back and... it was GONE!!
Well done though, it will look superb and at least you're a fellow member.
....only slightly miffed!

Just got VV07 DUB!

I agree,
Thirded.
The deal breaker for me is that the 5-door car is actually no bigger in terms of length than the 3 door.
I can't see why you want a 3 door when the overall car size is the same.
-
Three door looks
But for those who have families - I do, but I don't care    - five-door is a good option

I tried hard to find E30 VW or even better E30 GTI - but for some reason was not able to use i and the numbers only go upto 20 - really annoying. I will have to be creative with the lettering while also staying within the tight confines of the law - for the sake of Mr Gatso  It will probably go on like so... E3 0.VW with a blackened screw head or something between the O and VW

Finally... I assume you have got Autoglym Lifeshine for less than VW would offer it at? What is waxoyl?
I'll get back to you on the stonechip protection - I don't think its ventureshield - because its on my home pc. I paid £250 for Autoglym Lifeshine for my 06 GTI and it made a difference, but you can get the packs that the dealers use for £10 from ebay. I have three such packs each with a big label saying 'dealer use only'  The only thing you don't get is the big green bag with about £40 worth of Autoglym products - big deal. I already have the bag. The dealers mostly charge for labour as it does take a few hours to do. I'm paranoid about my Edition 30 and am not letting a dealer allow some spotty young kid to go over the car - I've seen them at work with a jet wash and wasn't impressed as he was getting very close to the paint with a high-powered jet which can damage the lacquer. As for waxoyl, you can get it from Halfords... its mostly used to keep old Mk1's and Mk2's from turning into rust buckets - like greasy wax. I'ill be applying it liberally to the Edition 30 in places that are vunerable even though its galvanised cause I'm mad
-

Would appreciate it re the stone chip stuff.
I decided to let VW do my lifeshine to get my bag of goodies and I'm told if the stuff is not applied properly you don't get a good finish. Maybe thats just the banter. Plus when i get it I'm off driving!!!

What you've been told about the Autoglym is true, but then you don't get a good finish if you don't wax a car properly. So really your dealer is talking out of his rear-end - like most of them do - to earn some more money. I would say however, that if you don't feel up to it, then let the dealer do it.
-
Illyun, did a bit more stone chip protection research. Seems Autofend takes a bit of stick from the TVR boys but they rate Paint Shield. What do you think?

I wouldn't trust what they say - rightly so but i'd imagine they would be pretty peeved with most things at the moment!
-
Hi fellas, been down to my dealer this afternoon and there she is in  the compound awaiting her PDI. YT 07 NNO will hit the streets  next week Thursday to be precise I have finally decided to order the Autoglym protection ( it has a 10 year warranty + Scotchguard interior + the thingy pack) retail price £300. Also taken out the GAP package, 3 years cover up to full retail cost of car, if stolen written off etc, retail price £300. My dealer at Doncaster who has always been excellent, has done the whole thing for £300 so its on offer too good to refuse I think. Taken Insurance in for VEL, also have had the USB lead fitted so just 9 days left to blast off , roll on :smug:.PS I dont mind the number plate at the moment cos me and the wife enjoy  the Vicar of Dibley.
-
Give us a clue... what was the build date of your car!!!
I'm going mad waiting to here when mine will arrive!!
Thanks

Hi Guys
With regard to Autoglym it is a rip of from the dealer and would not recomend it at all! There are far better products out there for your car for far less money! Autoglym is just a name!
Like you tho illyun I will be watching my dealer every step of the way with regards to delivery and how they prep the car. He has been told not wash it with a power washer and not to wash it with any sort of detergent! The swearl marks and light scratches dealers leave after simply washing you car is a joke and when any of my cars go in for a service I make sure they know not to wash it!
I to would be interested in Paint Protection, I had it on my exige when I got it and that was Amourfend, I have heard they are similer quality product out there for less.
Thanks
Nathan

Went drop the insurance off at the dealers. Went for a wander and there she was all clean and ready to go. I knew the car was in the country (last weeks) and ready for transport. So, it was like hold on............What a feeling.

Oooh - the above looks like mine! I'd get the dealer to remove that cheeky sticker - not unless they are willing to pay you an annual fee for free advertisement that is!
As far as Autoglym life shine is concerned, £300 is a rip off - i managed to get the full lifeshine kit from e-bay for £39.99. Quite a mark up there by the dealer for a bit of elbow grease - apart from which you'll be missing out on that 'intimate' period of knowing what you got during the application!
-

Can i ask why you needed to do this? Was it for tax? Reason i am asking is because, obvilously, i want my Ed.30 as soon as possible and if they need the insurance docs before they can tax it and then hand over i would rather try to sort it out sooner rather than later.
-
Hi
As far as I am aware you need to do this with any new car to get it taxed.
I am willing to be corected, I have only bought 1 car from new before!
Nathan
-
yup.. the tax is why you need it!
-
Simonet- the build week for my car was 4 if that helps and yes I took my Insurance in so that the car can be taxed. Dealers can apparently tax vehicles early like around now for the 1st March. Oh by the way, some pics I have seen on this site showed Ed 30 with Bridgestone Potenza's  on. I have said this before, too noisy for me these tyres, I looked at my Ed 30 yesterday and its got Continental's  on, thank God. So its a week tomorrow then  been clearing plenty of space in my garage this morning. I have a double but you know what wives are like, its "put it in the garage " with everything at my house.
By the way anyone need a starter car for their rug rat, my runaround is going next Thursday, its a Fiesta Ghia 1300 on an N ( roundy shape) with a recon engine, usual spec, very reliable, good mpg and low insurance, want around £700 for it
-
Thanks for that, I've just phoned the dealer and they say it's still at the port
He says they have put it on a priority ship date (mmm... we'll see)
So none the wiser at the mo. To think it was built only 2 weeks after yours I was hoping it would arrive for the 1st of March.... more time to waste on here I guess
-
Damn... I forgot to look at what tyres I had. Can't go back to the dealers - they'ill think I'm really strange.
-
looking at your tread pattern they look like Bridgestone Potenza's
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
They get quite good reviews, even an MG owner (can't be bothred to mention exactly what car) says they are good, so he must be right...... musn't he?
I'm sure they'll be fine, and anyway, if not you can have fun wearing them out!!
-
I have heard good reviews for the Continentals - but not the Bridgestones... oh well, I will just have to wear them out like you say
-
Look like Dunlop Sport Maxx to me........
-
The ones I have seen have all had Dunlop's on, which IIRC are pretty good tyres TBH.
Dave

That link on the home pc was for Armourfend and I think Paintshield use the same 3M material.

sweet ride, bet it will shift! i must admit though i dont like the wheels, the old style 18" wheels suit it better! but hey, who cares! lol

Did a bit more looking into this. Armourfend seems to get some stick, and i was quoted £400 to supply and fit Paint Shield to cover wing mirrors and everything in front of them. Would really like to see ca car with it on in the flesh.

Yes thats right... I've got three questions really.
1. Does the shield change the appearance of the car for the worse?
2. Will it 'yellow' over time
3. Is it easily removable without damage to the paintwork? Even after a number of years?
If the answer to the last two questions is yes, then I will go and get a bonnet bra.
-
1. Supposed to be best on dark cars, they don't recommend it for white so we're ok.
2. Apparently not
3. Yes, but only by a technician.
Trouble is, these are all the official answers, not met anyone who has done it or seen a protected car in the flesh.
-

Thats exactly the problem.... not sure whether to trust their word for it unless they sign a warranty clause with a significant financial penalty - probability = 0 on that I think  However, I am sure that there are many owners who have very expensive cars out there that use stonechip protection and have been doing so for years. I think I will do a bot more research in that area. OR if the company responsible can show me verifiable case studies of cars that have had this for years then that would be ok. :undecided:
-
I went to Halfords (yes i do on occassions ) bought the Armourfend stuff - halfords version and stuck it to the back bumper of my wifes car to stop the dog scratching it. Very easy to apply with the supplied solution, has not yellowed over the last year and you would have to look very close to notice it. Easy and a lot less than having to pay £400 for some snotty YTS chap to do it!
Go on be a dare devil and give it a go - and if you make a mess of it just peel it off - this is where your wifes hair dryer comes in handy!
-
Whats the cost Ollie?
-
Whats the cost Ollie?
For me to do it my son - £385!!!!
I think halfords is about £40 - comes in a big black tube.

Thats not too bad a price Ollie, including a 3 hour burn in your ED30 whilst your busy on mine (with no keys)...

If you apply the body guard yourself does it affect any warranty??

You car looks the mutts!
Good luck with her and all who er ride in her
-
Illyun,
You were Talking about your new reg number earlier.
I already have a private reg and so here's one for you to fight over on the DVLA site that I found earlier today.
VW53 OED
Which can read VW'S 30 ED
-
You car looks the mutts!

Thanks Doc... the little devil will NOT be riding in her after my experience with my 06 GTI and R32  Its not going to be a daily driver.

Hey illyun, had a look in halfords yesterday re stone chip protection. The only stuff they sell is their own branded universal film which you cut to size, it's much cheaper but as I suspect it will be crap and impossible to fit well I'm not sure it's the best route.
Also, i found out that the film will not adhere to Lifeshine, therefore any fitter will/should claybar the front of the car to remove it. Not quite what i hoped....
Now I have no idea what I'll do!!
-
Hi everyone! My first post on here, have been reading various threads for ages now, and thought it was about time to join in!
Have posted first on this thread as I particularly wanted to thank illyun for the pictures of his Ed30. Looks fantastic and is helping me through the wait as I have a 3-door Black Ed30 waiting to be picked up on Thursday! But have not seen her yet!!
Trading in my MK4 R32 and this will be my first GTi experience!

That doesn't sound too good. Mind you, I'd never do a DIY Halfrauds job on my Edition 30 because it will probably end up in tears. I went to my dealer today to discuss the price of my Edition 30 - more of that in a seperate post - and while we were talking I mentioned stone chip protection and he told me that the dealer can buy stonechip protection film from VW and get it applied for the front of my Edition 30 for around £80 which sounds like a bargain. Not sure about the quality though as I remember asking them about this last year and they said that VW stonechip film tended to peel and yellow after time and was mainly used for the rear bumper of family saloons like the Passat... so I'm a bit suspicious one because it is so cheap and secondly because of what I was told last yer. But its worth checking out.

I too was advised (by VW stealer) that their paint peels and yellows within a year...
i reckon Paint Shield is the best bet. It's also the only one that covers all bonnet which offers both total protection and no unslightly line across the body. Their credentials look good, seem to have an affiliation with a Porsche club - apparently Porkers get stone chips real bad.
Might ask to go to my local fitter for a peek.
