Title: highline computer can it be retro fitted?
Post by: dieselman on 16 February 2007, 06:59
Hi everyone new member here great site
just wondering has anyone changed the midline computer to the highline?
if so is it just a matter of coding the new cluster and the keys and changing some of the settings?
any help with this would be much appreciated!!
dieselman.
Ps first post on me birthday

I believe the answer is it costs a small fortune as you need half a new dash.

Happy Birthday!

This is one of my only gripes with the car - why were VW tight and not just fit the highline as standard?

Admittedly, if I wasn't tight and hadn't bought an import that I couldn't spec myself then I wouldn't have this problem

With a little big help from a vw friend, recoded the new cluster and my keys and hey presto.
May i be the first mk5 owner to do the highline cluster swap?

I thought the Sat Nav option already included Highline? - Was this not fitted as standard either?

Hi

Can you tell me if it was reasonably straight forward to swap the sat nav unit in?

Kind regards

Yes if you want to listen to a cd you won't be able to use the sat nav at the same time unless you fit a ipod connection or a cd changer then you can have sat nav at the same time as listening to music, you can still use the radio ovcourse

this is for daveN as i cannot reply to a personel message for some unknown reason
The sat nav will work just fine without the cluster, you do not lose any function's without the cluster, just make sure you get a gps ariel/code card/origional sat/nav disc and the seller has great feedback, this is the seller i bought mine from very very good service, recieved the player in excellent condition!!
do a search on ebay for -    autopark777

Dieselman, thanks for the response, I bought a CD based system from ebay for ~500 euro. The install looks easy enough after doing the ipod adapter a few weeks back.

I have a question do you know what the connector is on the rear in the picture on the left top.

I dont think its the cd changer as I have an ipod adapter connected and it is in to the block on the bottom right?

It's not the CD interface (that's bottom right within the bigger connector). I believe it's the multimedia interface (video & aux in).  You can connect a TV tuner, camera etc via this connector (with the appropriate adaptor like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230095010261 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230095010261)).
Cheers.

I'm still confused exactly by the differences between mid and highline. I can change things like footwell lights and the amount of time the headlights stay on but not things like the locks going down when I drive off - any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.

the highline swap was just a case of changing the midline clocks to the highline and transferring all the info you had on the midline especially your miles done, you don't have the right convenience module for to change locks and alarm beeps!!!
