Title: Cutting out?

when driving my 8v recently every time i take it out of gear and let my foot off the accelerator the revs drop very quickly it will then either cut out or the revs will bounce up and below 1k for about 15 seconds before settling again and idling fine.
The revs  drop so quickly I can even notice it during gearchanges.
Any ideas? it feels like something simple just not sure what to check.

Check the short pipe between the rockercover and the big round thing for holes.
