Have an L reg/94 Golft gti 8v and am looking at getting a K&N Filter, but I seem to have a choice of:
a) 8v(with mass air sensor)(Not for Hitachi mas) OR
b)8v mpi (Bosch LE air flow meter)
How do I know which one I need??
Cheers,
Gamm ???

Your car is 94 so its proberbly the Bosch.
The easiest way to check is to open the bonnet and look on the sensor. It is halfway up the intake pipe from your air box to engine. Alternatively give us your VIN and Model Code from your service book or plate under your bonnet and i'll check on my ETKA.

VIN plate is WVWZZZ1HZRW227731
Engine Code is 85 KW KAT 5G
Type = 1H1 6L4 - (no idea what this is)
Looks like it's a Bosch but wondered if you could confirm?
Thanks a lot,
Gamm

ETKA is not 100% on the branding of the sensor.
90% sure its a Bosch.
Does it have Bosch stamped on it?
Is it a big metal thing or a back box about the size of a business card but fatter?!!

Assuming it's on the big black box on the left as you look into the engine bay, it's got Bosch stamped on it and is a black box the size of a fat business card.

You need to get the Bosch K&N then.
Cheaper than the kit for my car. Mines the Hitachi. ?75 for the K&N kit!
Or do what i have done and build your own cold are induction system. Cheaper and you get more of a performance gain coz its not sucking in hot are from the engine. Still sounds good too.
By a K&N pannel filter to put in your standard air box (big black box on the left as you look into the engine bay). Take out the box and drill some holes in the bottom and wing side of it. Then buy some aluminiun ducting and make a cold air feed pipe from one of the grills on the front of the car to the box. Works a treat!

Thanks very much.
