Title: oil sump/oil change

i'm planning on doing an oil change in a couple of weeks and was wondering if there's any point in taking the sump off to do a general clean and check to see if the oil pick up thing and everything else is ok and not blocked. Is it easy? obvisoly i'll need a new sump gasket and i have already bought a new plug + washer. Any point?

If all is well I dont see any point taking the sump off.

However if you do decide, then its fairly straight forward to do, if a little messy!
To be honest if its a high miler and you dont know much about its history, I would change the oil pump, while the sumps off, they only cost £25 from ECP and is a doddle to fit. Small price to pay for piece of mind, especially without a baffled sump.

Thats what I've just done anyway!

I would say it's definately worth doing. I had to remove the sump from the gf's driver to clean the pickup after a low oil pressure problem developed. When I saw the amount of cr@p that had built up on the mesh and in the bottom of the sump I was shocked.
I decided I will remove the sump from mine before I put it back on the road in spring just as a matter of course.
It's an easy job but you will need a torque wrench to refit the sump, the only slightly awkward bolts are two at the gearbox end of the sump. I used a springy flexible socket set extension bar and managed to get to them no problem.
