Title: Mk3 Newbie
Post by: TanK_VW on 14 February 2007, 13:18
Hi All,

I am sure this question has been asked many times before but as you can see from from my signature below I am more used to MK2.

I have bought a MK3 1.8 GL (i know not another non GTI)  What can i do to get a bit more power. or is it not even worth it.

Thanks

Tanks mate being brutally honest it aint worth it!

Go find a decent 16v then think about tuning.

It does not look like it will be getting a GTi this year.

but my other option would be putting my brother VR6 engine (the rest of the car is falling a part) into the GL.  Would it be a mission to do or a car be done with out to much bother?

or again, is it a dont bother thing?

Its a worthwhile swop as you have a complete donor car.

is it a straight swap? i have a mate who is an out of work mechanic. but what sort of time would it take to do the change?

Its not really the nuts and bolts that take the time but the wiring loom and such!
I mean you will have to change everything, gearbox, driveshafts/hubs etc.
