Title: Getting a SS Manifold - TO WRAP OR NOT?
Post by: xxdansigxx on 13 February 2007, 22:53
RIght iv'e heard that if you get a stainless steel manifold you should heat wrap it due to how close it is the steering wheel rack :S

Can anyone advise this and if so what kit is best to use??

Thanks

Dan

Not sure how correct it is, but I've wrapped mine simply because there is no heat  protection from the exhaust otherwise. I bought mine from http://www.cooltek.co.uk/ the exhaust wrap (bought the 15M but that was tight) and SS ties. Fibreglass every where!

but looks good

Remember with heat wrap that you're not removing any heat, so wherever the wrapping ends, that's where all your heat is going to be. Also if you leave a gap in the wrapping that's a hotspot and fires can occur, same applies for any trapped moisture. Just a warning, not saying you shouldn't do it

there's a spray you can buy thats improves the performance of the wrap and keeps it altogether better. I used the spray on wrapped exhaust components.

I was in the same dilemer just after christmas and went with the wrap, I bought 50ft of 2inch tape and was spot on for length cost me £50 though, /i used hose clips to secure it as we have loads at work
So far though I have no complaints... So I would say go with the wrap.
