Post by: bad-vw-boy on 25 January 2004, 01:15
Help,Help Vag have just pronounced that my power steering pump is on its way out and they would like to charge me the pleasure of ?470 to fix it ,which is daylight robbery. I have seen the some power steering pumps through GSF and they only want ?160 fo it but how hard are they to fit or does anyone know of someone local to woking, guildford area that can do a reliable job of fitting this?  ??? Just to put the icing on the cake i have just been told that the water pump is know leaking and im pulling my hair out aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh :P

Don't pay someone to fit this when you could do it yourself, the pump is only bolted to the engine via a few brackets which don't actually need to come off. You will need to drain the PAS liquid off, just unbolt the pipework from the pump and have a bucket ready.

As for prices, you could pick up one 2nd hand, i picked up a whole PAS kit up for ?75 with a view to fitting to my car.
