well ive had a few problems with my golf over the last few months which have been sorted now one of my freinds asked if i would be interested in buying it off him its a 5dr and my golf gti at the moment is a 3dr and its got leather interior. can anyone tell me what the standard bhp of the vr6 is ? or i think it might be a mk3 vr6 on a 97reg

GTI 8v=115BHP
GTI 16V=150bhp
VR6=172BHP

i got the 16v gti so is the vr6 heavier or are they the same ?

the vr6 is about 60kg heavier

obd1 vr6's were 174bhp, i think obdII 's were slightly higher nearer the 180bhp mark.... i might be totally wrong..... had a vr6 for 6 months, only got rid caus eshell was rottin from inside out, now have a 96 16v mk3 ... miss the vr6 from idle grunt... 16v gets going but you have to keep it wound up all the time, where as the 6 does this from idle....
couldnt help you on weight, my vr6 was lowered and handled ok, this 16v is standard and handles like a boat...

i've worked out the power to weight ratio's of both the vr6 and 16v before, the vr6 is 16.3lb/bhp and the 16v is 17.3lb/bhp. I had a vr6 about a year ago and I've now got a 16v, personally I like the way the 16v drives much more, not quite as powerful but it handles better and feels sportier and as you can see from the power to weight ratios theres hardly anything in the difference.

The early model i.e "92" was 174bhp but the later models were pushed up to nearer 190bhp I owned a 92 model highline with colour coded leather and bumpers and my mate has the '97' 190bhp the later version had a better injection system and uprated ecu, this helps with the fuel economy my VR used to get an average of 25miles to the gallon, but pollys gets round the average of 32 to the gallon. If you go for it make sure you have a deep wallet the noise from the engine makes you want to floor it all the time just for the sound!!!!

Cool well the guy i might get it from has a cousin who has tuned it for him and the car is running sweet i want something with a little more power but i dont really want to pay out much more on the 16v ive got now i would rather buy a new car. will try to get more details on the car so as i can find out the right horse. ive just had a my 16v lowered like a few weeks ago now but if i was to get this vr6 would the suspension fit it i think the vr6 is 5 studs to right .i better check with my insurance aswell before i decide to jump the gun

my 8v gti is £240 fully comp wi 2 years ncb and i got a quote from confused.com for a VR6 for £290 fully comp. Im definately havin one this year. Eyeball-suckin grunt from idle! I had a shot o a mates stage 3 tuned VR6 and damn! It sucks you back into the seats!
I really get off on acceleration tho - its such a rush. I miss my scooby turbo but its only 40bhp more than a 95 VR6 and it did 19mpg and was group 19 insurance (£750 to me!) - im 41 btw :cool:

right i went to see the car today had a little go and it was amazing but its a 5dr ive got a 3dr mk316v at the moment the vr6 has 157 on the clock my golfs got 116 on the clock but i know that my suspension would fit insurance is costing me £750 third party fire and theft :cry: :sick: with 2 years no claims. the vr6 is on a k reg so thats a 92 right. the body work aint to bad but i think it needs a little paint work and brakes all round, he wants £1000 do you think its a steal or not ? let me know what you think
