Post by: golflad on 11 February 2007, 17:48
i've just bought my mk4 golf which has the six disc changer in the dash and radio cassette head unit. does anybody know if this will have the pre-outs and power wire to run an amp from.

not too sure, may have, you could get a new half decent HU for about 70 quid? or is something stopping you?

forgot about that, never seen the changer in the dash, heared about them though, not too sure but i know most aftermarket changers are pretty fussy with their connections so id say you couldnt keep it with an aftermarket HU, could maybe get a converter block but i really dont know sorry, someone elso on here was asking a similar question though, search for 6 disk changer and see how far he got.

Hi mate,

Standard Mk4 head units do not come with RCA pre-outs although an adapter to fit to the headunit to gice you them is available.

This also gives you your 'remote' wire for switching on/off the amplifier. You will also need to run a wire from your battery to the amplifier location for your permanent live - do not be tempted to use any old 12v ignition switched wire as it will not be capable of withstanding the current draw.

You're best off to get an amplifier wiring kit (which one will be dependant on which amp/s you intend to fit, and their current draw/wattage) from the same mob your purchase the pre-out adapter, and fit it all at once.

cd changers can be useful, but again with aftermarket HUs most can play mp3s now and you can fit up to about 6 on one cd, thats what i use so have never needed a changer!
