Title: 16v fuel options
Post by: SuSpEcT-GTII on 11 February 2007, 13:03
Hi all, Im looking to possibly exchange my 8v for a 16v (depending on whether I prefer them when I drive one) and have been doing a little homework on the forum here to see what I should be looking out for. Just read a thread where y'all were talking about 16v's not running well on regular unleaded fuel??? Now dont get all technical on me cos it just wont compute! Basically if I go for a 90/91/92 spec 16v do I need to splash out extra on "posh petrol"? (optimax etc)

I ran my valver for months on the std stuff, no harm done, I'm only running Super now because I have a flowed head with Piper cams etc...

Yes, they are supposed to run on 98 ron unleaded, which means (as you expected) you should be splashing out on a fuel such as optimax (now called V Power) or BP Ulitimate. I believe that Tesco also do a 99 ron unleaded, but Iv never tried it. When I first got mine I tried it on regular unleaded, and it didnt like it, so Iv been running it on V Power ever since, especially now since Iv got a modded cylinder head with Shricks!

think you can get the timing advanced/retarded (not sure which) so that i can happily run on 95.
If you can go for the good stuff

I'd also say steer clear of the standard 95 stuff, as I put it in at first by accident. It did not run well at all.
