well after swappin the rust bucket vr6 for the mk2 gti, even though it handled better it was so slow, and as ive been driving the mr2 turbo alot it just fell pants... so i let it go for what it stood me at cause i could be @rsed to do the little bits it needed doing.....
sold it this morning, then had the dilema... i was thinking of a seat ibiza cupra thing... the one i was gonna get had a ripped seat so i didnt bother.... needed a car today/tomorrow so gave a lad at work a bell who's been thinking of selling his mk3 16v gti for a while, he's not 'into' golfs, its just a car thats looked after with no expence spared.... so after some barter ive now got another mk3, a 96 black 3 door, low mileage , totally standard, 2 owners, full vag history etc.....
i just couldnt bare the thought of old lenny boy sailing on his own when he comes to the skegness show so i went and bought one so hes not lonely....
cost me a bag of sand....... not bad...
-
sounds cool any pics
-
yeah will take some tomorrow if its not raining  ..... going to get chin spoiler and a decent looking back box tomorrow....then decat, and drop it 60mm job done... nothing else... subtle is they key....
-
So in your opinion is it much slower than your vr? i think my 16v is fast but would love a go in a vr6, especially one with a filter and zorst...
-
in a word 'yes' , my old vr6 was lowered as well as having the 2.8 engine with induction kit, this ones totally standard so it feels like your on stilts for a start, it is nippy but not till youve got it wound up.........
-
Even in the ibiza its the same, not much till you wind it up, then they do shift.
-
See Gaz once you've had a Mk 3 they start to grow on you!
-
blimey, you are getting as bad as slammedmk2 for having a new car every other week!
sounds good though, looking forward to the pics
-
No one could be as bad as me
-
true, but he's not far off!
-
pictures... er none taken today ive had a hangover from hell.......
thanks to hardcore for the rear window wiper (as mine was missin)
now, driving it on saturday its too good ( as in not overlly fast, comfortable , mint everywhere etc) to go killing it round the track.... and the mr2 turbo is too fast to use on the road safely so im thinking of learning to drive the mr2 round the track as my toy, and keeping this mk3 as it is now.... standard ride height, wheels etc everything as its too good to modify in anyway in my eyes,
so do i do this?? or do i lower it, decat, exhaust etc and rag it to death round a track......

-
why cant you just subtly mod it for everyday usage?! :undecided:
Dinx
-
hmm i dunno... the boat like handling is quite comfortable, and it is a real goodun, i kinda think it would be wrong to mess about with it.....
-
your gettin fcukin old you mate..
even lens lowered his..
Dinx
-
oh dear..... just won some 17" wheels/tyres......

-
picked up these tonight...

so i guess standardism aint happening....... got a buyer for the mint stock rims, so that will fund some lowering kinda stuff... lol... as i dont wanna be ridin high to long!!
-
i'm guessing the mk2 was an 8v? otherwise 16v mk2 would surely be a better car than a 16v mk3? i might be wrong having never driven a 16v mk3 but going on what i have read?
-
I aint lowered mine yet Diane!
I have purchased some lowering springs and once the body kit is fitted I will decide if it needs to be lowered to complete the new look!
-
tom, yeah the mk2 i just got rid of was an 8v, i probably would have kept it and done the few jobs it needed if it was a 16v (have had about 5 mk2 8v's and 4 mk2 16v's) but it wasnt......yeah mk2 16v is a better car in my eyes, but as ive changed my direction (gonna bung me mr2 turbo on the trackdays and stuff as you cant drive it safely on the road cause its a lairy f@cker) , so i need a bit of realism for going to work and stuff in, was gonna keep it standard till i won them wheels...lol... now ive put em on this morning its

oil rig styleeeeee !!! it needs droppin about 2-3" but i dont want any of that scrubbin shat.... low is good, love the look but for real life driving its a pain in the a55... hmm coilovers i might be a thinking.........
-
yeah, i recon coilovers are the best way. looks good for a bag of sand!
-
looks tidy, how about a VR6 splitter too
-
well been a busy morning, took the oil rig suspension off, and fitted a second hand 60mm drop shock/spring set, job didnt take more than an hour, she now sitsloads better, got a slight knock on front right but i dont think the spring is seated proper, will have a look tomorrow , also fitted a back box too , but im gonna need some better clamps as my old ones dont hold it exactly where i want it.... well chuffed though... big thanks to j' at hardcore dubz for the use of a bit of his workshop and the buzz gun to make the job easier!!
heres a couple of pics, now the car needs a damn clean!!!

now do i leave it or play some more...... lol
-
looking good , just clean the damn thing
-
and play some more......how does the back box sound? try a induction kit...it wont be a vr growl but itll sound nice for a four pot!
-
and this was the car that a couple of days ago was too nice to modify!
Looks miles better now, I'd get some spacers on the rear wheels and widen the stance a little but after that id say its lookin grand. No reason not to keep playin mind
