Hi can anyone help my bonnet isnt closing properly and the cable from the release to the handle seems slack.
Its not snapped but the actual clip on the front of the car seems to not spring back.
hope this makes sense

a common problem with golf bonnets. the handle inside doesnt sit back where it should
and stops the bonnet from catching. you need to push the handle forwards and then close the bonnet

You might find that the spring on the bonnet catch has snapped. This would also stop the handle inside the car snapping back. Easy job to do, get down the scrappy and skank one of a vw there.

spray a load of wd40 on the lower part of the bonnet catch and push and pull it around to work the oil in. they tend to get sticky and not release so the oil will sort it out.

I'd suggest that as well, it's always worked for me...

spring snapped on my old 16v, easy enough to replace!

yeah happened to me last year, just as we were about to set off on holiday. one temporary trick is to loop 3 or 4 small elastic bands on the 2 ends the spring was originally attached to. double up the bands to suit if its still too slack. This will work as a temporary fix until you can get a replacement spring at least.

oh and you might find it a lot easier to get too if you pop off the front grille as well.

Recently had to replace mine as the spring snapped - what a pain!
Wasnt too bad to do though
