Since i got a new tyre fitted my steering vibrates when going over 70.
I had a look around the forums and it may the spiggot rings or possibly a cv joint.
I swapped my tyres over last night and the problem has got a bit worse.
The wheels didnt have any plastic rings, are mine alloys supposed to have them.
I have standard bbs alloys.
The car steering pulls now and again but not bad enough to make me think its the alignment.
Any Ideas?
Where can i get spiggot rings from?

to check if you need spiggot rings, fit the wheel to the hub without bolting it in place and try to move it from side to side. The wheel should be a snug fit on the lip in the middle of the mounting hub.
What happens if you swap the rear wheels to the front?
-
You have had the wheels balanced right?
-
the problem only started when i got a new tyre (that i noticed)
i swapped the wheels from front to back and it got worse (shouldn't of said tyres i meant wheel)
when i swapped the wheels they all seemed to fit on the hub snugly and stay on under their own weight i.e. no bolts as least on the back can't remeber the front so much
-
did you get both front tires done, or just 1?
-
Sounds like the wheels havnt been balanced, ive got a vibrating wheel above 70 but thats because the stick on weight has fallen off
-
it was just 1 front tyre :embarassed:
but that is on the back with the other front wheel now.
it said the wheels were balanced on the reciept and i had a look on the back of the wheel
is 2 large weights! but now there on the back i would think if it was that then the vibration would be
better on the front??
-
In theory yes, perhaps your back wheels were buggered too though
Ideally you should always have a matching set of tires on the front at least, but my GTI came with missmatched tires up front for ages and I noticed no problems, but I didn't want to push my luck with it since they were both shocking budget tires
Certanly no vibration!
-
i think i'll take it into kwikfit as they say they do wheel alignment and balancing and
get them to do the whole lot and see if that helps.
i've had some really bad tyres but none have ever made the car vibrate so i'm thinking its more
serious
-
Wheel itself isnt damaged is it??
-
the wheels that are now on the front look fine.
the wheels now on the back have been curbed quite a bit but they dont look bent or out of shape
-
finally took it to get the wheels balanced
turns out it was the front right passengers wheel that was buckled.
they put some big weights on it and moved it to the back.
its much better now but im going to look for a new one.
so if anyone has 1, 15" bbs gti alloy in good condition PM me!
