Had a 'moment' with a Mk4 TDI this morning, so i thought i would share it !!
Coming out of our local town is a fairly steepish hill, that breaks into two lanes with a roundabout at the top. Nice!
Now I am not one for flooring the old girl, but something made me go for it this morning, maybe it was the way the black Mk4 was hanging back as we approached the hill ?!! So, i popped her into 3rd and floored it, waiting for the Mk4 to show me some response. He stayed with me for a bit, but I was slowly pulling away. Reached 105mph pretty quickly and he was starting to fall behind, whoops here comes the roundabout !! On with the brakes, finally to a stop, and wait for the gap. He pulls up on the inside, a 20 something sales rep. by the looks of things, and here's the best bit. I was going to give him a VW owners nod, but he can't bring himself to even look! Priceless.
So glad I'm a MK2 owner !!

Rant over !

yeah there is something special about the mk2 isn' t there, I have an 8v and a Bora TDI (130) when the bora was standard me and a mate had a little play he was driving my golf me the bora, performance wise they are nigh on identical with the bora having better pick up due to the midrange torque, now handling wise the mk2 wins everytime and even though now the bora has 175bhp, 330ft/lb torque and coilovers, the golf is still more fun, even though the bora blows it away performance wise, and corners better, brakes better etc, it just isn't as much fun. VW got it right with the mk2 the engineers won not the accountants.

there is something so satisfying about beating mk4's in a mk2! I've had a couple of simular thrashs' in mine. reminds me everytime that i'm in the correct golf!
