Is it worth bothering with other engien type swaps ?
My MK1 golf gti currently sporting a 1.8 8v as VW intended it
but is it worth lookin at some of the newer 1.6 16V engines , the 2.0 FSI , or even the V5 , does anyone have any specs or performance figures on these or any general opinions , or is it best stickin to tried and tested ?

I suppose it depends on how modified your mk1 is anyway..
I mean i've got a reconned Scirroco Scala 1.8i lump but thats only because the previous lump kicked the bucket.

Newer engines are going to be a lot of work & money as they'll need custom mounts fabricated and some kind of engine management to get them running. So not really worth it unless you've got a big wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket.
Stick a Mk2 16v in it  its an easy DIY conversion, I did mine on the street outside my house for a grand total of £816

Still undecided what i want to do with it
Strip it stick plazzy windows in an track it
or restore it with some choise mods
an spearmint the MK1s what i call nature modified , IE full of rust

Stu,
I have a 2.0litre 8v in mine with flowed head and high lift cam, knocking out ~150BHP. I am in Runcorn if you want to bob over and take her for a spin to see how she flies! May then make your mind up
Just call me on 07801 021023 if you want to try it. I'm off work at moment with back injury so here all the time for tghe foreseeable future!
