Title: Mk2 seats
Post by: Mk2George on 04 February 2007, 18:10
Is the passenger side seat off a MK2 interchangeable with the drivers seat? eg could i use the seat and backrest padding from the passenger side seat in my mates mk2 with the same trim and put it on the worn bolster and backrest on mine or are the specific to nearsde and offside? Anyone know?

the seat bases only differ in that the lever and mechanism to slide the seta back and forth is sided, so you wouldn't be able to swap that part and retain that function. the tops are only different in that the lever to flip the seat forwards to let people in the back (if its a 3 door) is on one side, this would only mean that you'd have the lever in the middle of the car not by the doors. other than that, if you were prepared to strip the seats down to the foam/cloth, them yes they are swappable.

Yeah mine is a 5 door and the replacements would be coming off a 5 door too. All im interested in is changing the padding as mine is worn, dont need to mess with the mechanisms or anything like that

the base subframes cannot be swapped over, the seatbelt and forward/back lever is on the wrong side.  The base foam/fabric can be swaped however, and is an easy 10 minute job :)
