I think the wheels are big enough in my opinion.....
Just needs to be lower I reckon 25mm would be very cool
The WRC Rally cars run 18'' on tarmac and they are similar sized cars
But they ride soooo lowwww !

Question that I think I already know the answer to:
Got the green light from the boss ('er indoors! to order a new GTI). So contacted local stealer, 3 door, (black pearl), 18 monzas and winter pack. Got a price and after picking myself up of the floor rang around a few places. To cut a long story short, got a very good quote on a standard GTI but also a v good quote on a ED30 (within the old budget).
So what to do, the boss says I can have either (got to love her!!) but I do read a few negative things about the ED30, but I dont like to be just one of the crowd and thing the additional 30bhp will certainly entertain!
Views, advice, opinion???
Cheers
-
I had the same quandry and went for a few options instead of the ED30. Depends if you want 30bhp, some body coloured bits and some red stitching or some other treats on a GTi.
I prefer the wheels of the GTi, wanted it blue, and didn't feel the extra cost of the ED30 would give me enough to warrant it, plus i took into account higher insurance and arginally higher fuel consumption.
BUT, the ED30 looks great, is limited in numbers and for the time being will hold a higher value.
-
hi paul [i think?],i really dont see any negative things about the ed30,only hear negative things understandably, from those who have recently shelled out loads of money on a standard gti only to be faced with an upgraded model. i know there seems to be a lot of fuss about the wheels but in the flesh they look good.but there you go im bias, what i will say is that an edition 30 should hold its value a bit better like the anniversary, but ultimatley the choice is yours.

Thanks Jer
To be honest your opinion reflects mine, going to give them a call tomorrow and place the order I think, as long as they can give me a decent delivery date, just then have to wait weeks and get my Mk4 GT TDI flogged!!!
-
Don't listen to those that reckon the standard GTI is better... OK it may win the popular vote - including mine - in the aesthetic dept. but it doesn't match the Edition 30 for residuals, an uprated engine (not just an ecu re-map) and that exclusitivity. As for its detractors, as someone else has pointed out, its a case of sour grapes as they've probably spent a lot on a standard model...
-
Agreed Illyun, and if you are swappiing your R32 for one it can't be that bad can it!!! :)
-
Nice pictures, in a nice location, I love Poole, with the extra power of the ED30 I think VW have closed the gap in the Golf range even more now.
Hope you enjoy your car.
-
I'll miss the R32 and DSG  I had an 06 GTI and although its more fun to drive, the R32 is a grown up beast/monster of a hot-hatch and the engine sounds sublime... However, I love GTIs too and the Edition 30 will be a weekend car... My next new car in 1-2 years time - most probably Sept 08 - will be an R32/R36 with DSG unless something else spectacular comes out of VW...
-
How do you think it will compare performance wise against your R32 ?
Will it 'feel' quicker ?
I have a MK4 R32 for the past 5 years and I'm just waiting for delivery on the ED30 (withought a test drive)
Just wondering how its going to feel....

bhp at the wheels will be higher in the edition 30
a lot of power is lost through the haldex system,
most chipped TT quattro are loosing 90bhp through transmision
-
I reckon it will feel quicker as its lighter and feels more frantic and certainly give the R32 a run for its money from 0-60... Thats going by the 06 GTI I had, but it did feel like a toy car compared to the Mk5 R32.
