Title: Shall we build a fault code database?

Just an idea at the moment but how about I start building a fault code database? I have access to all the fault codes, what they mean and possible causes. For example, one I have just answered:-

17978, P1570

Engine Control Module (ECM) - immobilizer active

Probable causes:- Incorrect/damaged key, incorrectly coded, ECM/immobilizer replacement without recoding, wiring, immobilizer defective.

As the questions are asked/answered we could slowly build up a useful resource for everyone to check before asking the question. We already have a list of fault codes but tbh they don't really help much do they.

What do you think?

i think if you`ve got the time and patience rich go for it, could be very helpful to lots of people

If people are going to find it helpful then I'm happy to do it. It'll be a gradual process, added to as people ask for them. Also it will help to concentrate all the fault code questions into one place and give everyone a 'one-stop' place to look instead of seraching the forum.

here's a link to the list i have used many times......don't know how upto date this is but it helped fix a 1999 Mk4 gti

Trouble is the PDF one doesn't give you all the probable causes and whilst the ross tech one is very good, it doesn't list all of them. Useful links though, thanks.

I have decided that the way I will do it is to update the thread that we already have stickied at the top.
Feel free to ask on any code in that thread and I'll do my best to update it ASAP.
