I have a Mk2 GTi 8v and am thinking of changing to a Mk3 Gti 8v or 16v. Should I?
What are the big probs with Mk3 as my MK 2 is indestrucatble  Your views please.

Dont do it, unless you want a quieter car.
-
Mk3 is heavyier, slower and with boat like handling compared to a mk2 (as standard anyway)...but you get a more refined (older man's motor!!!!) in the mk3...
have a look through the mk3 board for an idea of problem's and also a guide for buying one

if you are 50+

Hang on to your mk2 and mod it up imo.
-
Don't do it!
-
I wouldnt do it either, had a Mk3 GTi 8v when I joined these forums and it simply isnt a patch on my Mk2 GTi 8v. Not as quick, handled like a barge in comparison and of course doesnt have the retro looks

The only time mk3s are acceptable are as VR6's or cabs..........or cabs with VR6's!
-
don't do it
-
iv got both a MK2 and a MK3 GTi 8v's.. i still prefer the MK2... i would spend the extra on modding the MK2..
trust me bro..

Ive owned both mk2s and 3s i love em all. If you do go for a mk3 its got to be a VR mate the noise and the 70-100mph power is great. With standard springs the VR is a bit of a marshmellow but with a harder set up there great....

Ask yourself what you want the car to do. Then tell us. You might get a more informed response...... :smug:

do the right thing... keep the mk2!

I have mk 1 , mk2 and a mk3. I really like the mk3 but have to admit it aint as quick as the mk2 and definitely not as quick as my mk1
however, it does depend on what you want the car for and to do! the mk3 is very comfortable and does everything you ask of it. i personally think the handling is ok and have used it on the track and it did not disgrace itself against the competition.
fuel economy also good from the mk3 compared to the 2 and 1.
i wouldnt be put off but you do need to determine what you want from the car etc...
thats my two penneth....
