Can anyone help? My Mk11 GTi ('92) is driving me nuts, on start up it runs really lumpy and if it stalls in the first 30secs it just refuses to start as if it has been totally flooded. After the first minute of driving she runs smoothly and is a dream except.....when you take your foot off the throttle it lurches badly and does the same if coasting and not applying much throttle pressure, where do i start? Thanks.

check the normal stuff plugs dizzy cap and rotor arm,
check the earth connections on the engine also check your high and low tention wires on your ignition coil...
the damp plays havoc with the ignition system in the winter..... if theses are all fine then it could be anything..... i would also try some injector cleaner like redex or slick 50 fuel system treatment as you may have blocked leaking injectors this will remove the carbon out of them and return spray pattens to normal..

check all vacuum lines and breather hoses etc, make sure you got no broken/frayed/loose wires on any of the sensor for the ecu

Thanks for help found cold start sensor has failed and corroded connections on ecu, cleaned up and coated in wd40 much better starting now.
