Title: 20vt convert - Gearbox?
Post by: inthoughtwelive on 02 February 2007, 16:59
Hey kids, im looking in to doing a 20vt conversion on a mk3, the the 20vt is the 150bhp version from a mk4 gti. I've been informed its a lot of work to use the 20vt gearbox, and was told the best bet was to go for a 16v gearbox from the 2.0l mk3, however, im finding it dificult to find a 16valver in my price range, as i dont wnat to spend £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£'s on it, as ill be gutting the whole thing out, what i would preffer is to find a more recent bog standerd mk3, say around 95-96,and i can uprate the brakes with the mk4's and if it was the best bet, find a 16v box from a scrappy etc. And my question is, how much more expensive/work is it to use the 20vt box, and is there any other alternitive box's, as im looking for more acceleration rather then speed. But also need to handle the power, as i'll be doing alot of work to the engine.

Thanks in advance

Regards, Will
