Title: Offset
Post by: DAZ$TAR on 02 February 2007, 11:48
Anyone tell me what the offset is for a MK5 please ?

Also looking for a suspension drop (just springs)

Thinking about a 19'' rim with a suspension drop - but I dont want any fouling / rubbing / rolling of arches.

Thanks,

Daz

Cheers Hurdy,

I think the lowering route will be the one I will take, just 20mm on the standars rims.

Kin hell, 10 years ago everyone was screaming that they managed to fit 16's on their golf....now its 19's !!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes IMHO they can look TOO big - size aint everything !

So we have so far.....

Panel Filter
Revo Remap /  RICA tuning - What are these guys like ?????
Lowering springs - 20mm
Maybe exhaust system....dunno yet
Then keep all the original bits in a huge box to annoy the Mrs !

Hi Daz,

I have e-mailed Mega4 who do Revo upgrades and Milltek exhaust systems for the standard GTI. There is no mention yet of an ECU upgrade for the Edition 30 on their website, so I have asked if they have one in development and also if the Milltek exhaust system and hi flow cat for the standard GTI will be the same parts for the ED 30.

Still waiting for an answer.

Are you thinking about a brake upgrade to rein in all this power?

mmmm...maybe.... suppose really I should see how the car in standard guise feels 1st

Just that its so tunable and its exciting to know it will have a similar power output to scoobs / evos

I had a brake kit on my Corrado and that was OK.....comprised of Brake lines / drilled discs / racing pads - seemed ok.

I'm not much of a track day guy to be honest and more of a poser !

Although I do like the ol traffic light / toll booth 1/4 mile !

OK, I presume the wheel rim offset is what you were after - if so here goes.

For the GTI optional Monza 2 18"s, the offset is 51 on a 7½" rim width.

Any good for starters?

What do we think the following ED 30 would have then as a power output

Induction kit
Forge twincooler http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0013&product=FMINTMK5
Milltek stainless steel exhaust and free flow cat system
Revo remap

My guess would be around 330 horsies   :smug:

that would be too hectic for a front wheel drive car, perhaps you need to look at R32 instead, because you will never be able to get the power down and make the most of all that horsepower and cost!!!

I agree, I will probably go down the road of Milltek exhaust, free flow cat and induction kit first ( probably 10 - 20 bhp) and see how that handles

Nahh, don't need an R32, just look what the chaps at Oettinger can do http://www.rsdcars-uk.co.uk/Oettinger.htm - 310Ps, from the standard 200Ps GTI lump - fook me - that should be awesome!

So far I have had 2 guesses of power outputs :

Once they both realised that the Turbo and Engine internals were the same as the new S3 they quoted 300Bhp plus

Standard GTi Turbo / Engine - 250 - 265Bhp

They alos stated that a panel filter / Exhaust wouldnt provide much extra and to also stay away from decatting.

Who??

The panel filter :undecided: I'd try and stick with the OEM, as half the time, these aftermarket filters let too much crap through, turning the insides of your motor into a nice "grinding machine".  :nerd:

Exhaust and / or decat or sports cat, now that's a different matter.  With standard everything else, a cat-back shold give about 8-10Ps increase alone.  However, if you go the bigger turbo route, then a Milltek or Oettinger system should be a must!

Will be sticking with the standard S3 turbo me thinks and thanks for the heads up on the Panel Filter.

Who was it who gave you those figures you posted in #10?

AMD quoted 250Bhp (not sure if they realised it was an ED30)

RICA Quoted 265Bhp then said 300 Plus when the knew it was ED30

Ahh - OK.  Not that I would recommend AMD chips/tuning, because AMD are American, and in the US/CDN markets, the "S" of the FSI is not enabled, due to their crap (too much sulphur) petrol.  In Europe, we have to have ultra low sulphur unleaded petrol, and the "S" or stratified (homogenous) part of the fuel injection needs this.  This is the part of the FSI which provides the increased fuel economy on part-throttle operation.  Because that part is not enabled in the US/CDN fuel maps, how can AMD adjust our European "FSI" maps!?!?  :nerd:

RICA Quoted 265Bhp then said 300 Plus when the knew it was ED30

Never heard of them.

fx/on <fires up Google> fx/off

Oh, well they are gonna know all about the FSI maps - not!  They are Volvo specialists, and the FSI maps were particularly difficult to crack, even by the dedicated VAG tuners!

Hmmm . . . I'd be tempted to stick with someone like REVO or Oettinger, for their re-maps anyway.
