Title: Replacing the Header Tank on the 8v GTi, 2 types?
Post by: jaybv6 on 02 February 2007, 07:55
Has anyone done this?  I've noticed from a few pics that some cars have the same header tank as me, a squarish type pre 89, and some have the round type I prosume on post 90 cars.  The reason I ask is that my Strut Brace seems to foul my Header tank however if I was to fit a round header tank it may not be an issue.  Is the attachment bracket different on the earlier/later type tanks?

One has a level sensonr(the post 90) and the other one doesn't. Not sure bout that brackets though but i don't think they're interchangeable.

Bracket is completely different unfortunately. pre-90 is welded on, 90 spec is held on by 2 nuts. You also need a longer hose from the radiator to header tank, I had mine replaced just by welding on the 90 spec bracket to the old bracket.

Cheers for the reply.  I'm gonna have to go back to the drawing board.   May have to mount the current one a bit lower some how.
