i have got a broken rubber tube, its small at one end and big at the other. it comes off the air box and goes into the engine by the oil filter. i've had a look in the haynes manual and theres not much help but they had a little pic and im not sure if is the right one. crankcase breather ring any bells?
89 golf gti 16v

Yep it sounds like the crankcase breather hose.
-
cheers golfvr6.
do you know where i can get one from?
-
vag or a scrappy if you can find a pipe in good nick. shouldnt think they would be that expensive
-
are they only on 16v or can i find them on 8v to
-
they are on all golfs but they will prob be different shapes, sorry i dont know what a 16v one looks like :( get one and compare it to yours, i would go to vag tho they will give you the right one and it wont be rotted/fragile/oily etc
-
I'm sure the 16v breather is different to the 8v.
-
The 16V breather is on the front of the block and the 8V one is mounted on the cam cover and has a big plastic plug that replaced the earlier built in wire mesh type cam covers.
Sounds to me like the breather to airbox hose.
