Title: Problems with my Stealth shelf.
Post by: Gothic GTi on 22 January 2004, 22:03
I'm currently restoring my Mk2 to showroom standard, however I wanted some decent sounds, so I fitted a stealth shelf and a set of 6"x9" JBLs at the back. Problem being the stuts that lift the boot now can't cope with the extra weight. Are there any replacement struts I can buy that will do better or are there any other fixes anybody knows about.

you probably have nakkerd struts.

Not sure it those chrome bonnet lifters fit, they are probably more powerful

unhook the tailgate from the shelf. you could use some lifters to lift the shelf too if you wanted.

They sound knackered! Some new standard VW ones should do the trick. Seen them lift stealth shelves no problem before.
