right ive got a 2.0 mk3 8v gti and wana no if its worth me puttin a 1.0 16 v lump in and what i wud need 2 change and is it a straight swop

quite new to all this, but from the basic mechanical knoledge i have, you're gonna want to change the rear drums for discs as on the 16v models, probably need to change the engine management comp to, seek advice on this as it may only be a chip set change, also need to check if drive shafts will be a straight swop, they probably will be but get it clarified first. Good luck with it thou as it sounds like an excellent project and would be interested to know if it can be done

Your current car being a 2.0 8v will be using the digifant fuel management system, now im not very familiar with the mk3 but i think the 16valve is K-Jet. If you want a 16valve then your going to need the entire engine and wiring loom with it, im not entirely sure but i think its a fairly hefty job.

You may be better off just buying a 16valve unless you got easy access to a donor vehicle.

Im sure someone will be along to clear up any mistakes ive made  :smiley:

iirc front brakes on the 8v are smaller than the 16v. 16v has 282mm discs and is also 5 stud fitment for wheels.

so prob the whole lot i would of thought, engine, box, loom, ecu, hubs, rear disc conversion, front brake set up, and something tells me the 888v is a cable clutch where the 16v is hydraulic clutch.

but im sure there will be someone on here who has more knowledge than me  :smiley:
