Title: VW 1.4 engine cutting out when revs drop......
Post by: gtireece on 29 January 2007, 20:48
Ive got a second car, a 1.4 polo L on a P plate. Recently it seems to developed a fault that is random, will not do it for days but then can do it everytime you drop revs. Usually coming to a set of lights and dipping the clutch the revs will drop as usual but wont stop and bounce up when it gets to like 750rpm, instead it just drops to 0 and engine cuts out.
BUT!! if you blip the accelerator as u dip the clutch it doesn't cut out...any ideas I'm stumped? :undecided:

My mk2 16v has had this problem before. John mitchell of JMR racing explained to me that sometimes when braking, the engine can rock forward/back exsposing small air leaks that are past the airflow meter so not adjusted for, letting in too much air thus stalling the engine.

might need to replace the filter element in your airbox, this happened to my fiesta and it fixed the problem.. hope that helps!
