i see the mk3 boys have got a 'top speed thread' on the go so why nout the mk4 peeps!!!, what model car you got and what you seen on the clock????
on the way back to lincoln from newark 'free' over took me in his mk2 (after asking me to go steady) he said he was doing 110 and still going i was doing about 65, so i clogged down a few and wound it up, showed 135 ish on me speedo and flew past him (he said he was flat out at 120-125 is) so not sure i know speedos out by a bit but this 1.8 20v is only spose to do 125 flat out and was on dual carrige way and still going!! would like to see what other peeps speedo reading are!!! :P

Hi Kniterider
I have got the exact same car as you (1.8 non-turbo 20v) and I clocked 120mph on a dual carriage way, but I reckon there was more in the old girl - probably another 10-15mph
-
i can get 90 out of my ax woohoo lol
-
mines done 77k and is loosening up all the time, this was a long dual carrige way and prob back wind!! when i 1st got car wouldnt pull much more above 120 but 9 months of giving it some stick and its going faster!! ;D
-
Mine has done 112k, maybe this is why I felt the car could do more than 120mph
-
Had 135mph out of mine the other day but radar detector started beeping and had to back off. Reckon there was still some left, thanks to the Revo Mod.
-
had 135 out of my 1.8T, was still some left to go, and have not tested top speed since adding K&N and exhaust....
-
My nerves give in when the needle get's to 110, I then start thinking what would I do if I lost my licence. Instant ban isn't it, if you get caught doing a tonne?
-
been quoted 135-140 after re-map. Not been anywhere near that yet though (Usually have my baby in the back so have to be kind of "Responsible")
-
lost my bottle at 130 :-X 1.8T
-
had 130 out of my PD130, and felt good in 6 th until i bricked it, when i was 19 and driving a fiesta 1.6 i would regularly be on the road at over 110 and 120. But nower days i sh!t it and am scared of seeing a stupid mobile speed camera.
I did have a good one the other night up canterbury hill at 3 in the morning, managed to keep it at 120 all the way up there. My old Punto 1.8 HGT would only manage 100 and that would fade.
Although i think i have only been over 100 a few times in my new golf, its not worth it nower days unless its the middle of the night and you are on a deserted bit of road. + i need my license for my job.
Anyone in V6 or R32 got a good top end.

125 mph out of my ! ;D

I have a friend (honestly! I'm not just saying it's a 'friend', I can't afford to lose my license! I have already been caught speeing along the A4 in London at the bit in near the M4 flyover where it's six lanes...and the speed limit is a stupid 40mph! So I'm still a bit paranoid to go racing around) who has a PD 150 and he said he was bombing along at 140mph down the M4 (middle of the night of course) and said it still had quite a bit of pull left.
-
Had an indicated 140mph in both my previous 1.8t (unmodified). The 1999 version for some reason was still accelerating but i had to back off, I'm sure it had more left. The 2000 version really seemed to labour after 130, but it did have less mileage at the time and it was a warmer day. In my current 180 version I've had an indicated 140 in a place where the both previous Golfs could only manage 132 over the same distance (and in the 180 I had 2 co-pilots in!), so I'm thinking that on the right road (private airfield of course!) it will push nicely past 140.
-
PS for anyone that doesn't know if you get caught and timed over 100mph on a public road you will be read your rights and summonsed to court. You'll definately recieve a ban and a nasty fine. The ban is left on your license for 4 years (and I was told, but not confirmed that you have to declare this to insurance companies for 10 years!). The next bad thing is that wherever you get caught by the Police, you have to attend the court in that area. So if you get busted on the M74 in scotland you've got to get yourself to a court there, knowing you can't drive back! Thought it best to say all this!

125 on the m25. got a bit scared though cos its much faster than my old car (70!)
-
Franco - not entirely true
I got pulled at 114mph Xmas day 2 years back on the M62. :-[
Got 3 points and ?60 fine. The copper who pulled me said he wouldn't bother pulling anyone going under 85, but over 100 is officially 'taking the piss' (his words !) and any copper would pull you over. After saying what an idiot I am, etc, (and me having to agree - what else can you do ?), he said he'd do me a favour and put 'over 70mph' on the ticket.
Didn't stop him flying past me at at least 120mph after writing me the ticket though ...........
Who polices the police by the way ?????????
Night,
Mark

Me and my mate, (not called Dave) got pulled once on the way back from southend at 110. We were pulled by a Ford Galaxy copper car. It was 2 in the morning and after giving my mate a ticking off he said on your way and don't do it again. he did say if the traffic boys had pulled us over he would have been done, apparently traffic police are harder, it's because they sit in laybys all day pleasuring each other,,,, bah bah bah!
And the devil polices the police.
