Title: sports clutch for mk3 diesel
Post by: nicholasp on 27 January 2007, 19:19
Hi guys,

i was surfing gsf parts and finally found the sachs sport clutch kit for my tdi mk3....

Few questions though...

How much does it usually cost to fit a clutch?

My clutch is not slipping atall. My car has been chipped but i reckon the clutch is in good condition. Am i wasting money? I heard sport clutches can give you up to 20% more torque so therefore, is it a performance upgrade...? insurance?  :undecided:

The clutch transmits the engine power to the gearbox, it doesnt contribute any torque at all, it can only vary in the amount of slip before full contact is made and the engine and gearbox mainshaft are then turning at 1:1.

Sports clutches can take more torque without slipping, not give torque thats not there. A standard clutch in full contact will maybe take say 150bhp or 110lbs of torque applied by the engine, but 200bhp would make it slip, sports clutches slip at a higher torque figure if the engine can produce it, thats all.

If yours doesnt slip and you dont do 5k rpm launches from the traffic lights or drag strip runs, its a waste of money mate

Again - a sports clutch adds no power whatsoever. Its just stronger for use wi uprated motors.
