Post by: VR6_ROB on 27 January 2007, 15:48
just a question how far does the top of the strut stick out of the strut tower on the front
mines out about half a inch and my car makes a knocking sound just wondered if
its that i jacked car up and they is movement in the strut rubber might be perished

and how easy is it to change the rubbers in the top i think i have some poly bushes kicking about

Theres a post somewhere on here about this mate, quite recent too (have a search).

IIRC mine had no or a very very little gap between the top plate and the strut tower. I used new G60 top mounts (from GSF).They're easy to change, just drop the shock out and the mount usually sits on top, replace and hey presto. The top nut takes some ingenuity to remove/tighten however.

G60 top mounts are much better that the standard ones. when i recentley had coilovers fitted, ...joe recommended i upgrade the top mounts too. cost about £30 for the pair!

rob they shouldnt stick out too far.

Its probably due to your heavier engine so get uprated ones. Mine made a 'click' noise when worn.

Does this pic help?
