any ideas on whether a petrol leak counld cause over revving when stopped in traffic and cutting out when engine cold. The leak (seaping out very slowly) is coming from a 2/3cm hose which appears to go into the top of the inlet manifold. :-[

need to know what engine your on about
8v/16v?
kjet/digi?
-
Its a 91J 8 valve.
-
have you seen garden hosepipes? most have a metal hose clip thingy on them that you tighten with a flat head screwdriver.
Think i tighten'd the same clip on mine on the petrol hose and the leak stopped.
-
Would that leak contintribute to the poor running of my baby? ???
-
It could do it is loosing pressure a lot but then again if it was leaking that badly you would have known about it.
The hoses on the 8V always perish and cost bugger all to replace.
do it urgently before you catch fire.
-
catch fire yes. Mate of mine told me that most mk2's petrol pipes freeze in very cold conditions and then they crack, causing a leak.
he knew this because his car was in flames when he woke up :o
like mod says, get it checked
-
as long as your good with the spanners you can do it yourself, petrol pipe is sold in all motorfactors and always use new petrol pipe clips as sometimes the big julibee clips dig into the wall of the new pipe knackering it.
replace one at a time so if your unsure you wont get the feed and returns mixed up.

STOP!!!
I know a mate with a slight petrol leak in his mk2 16v, soon became a big leak, soon became on fire, wit him in it!
He did get out in time but it aint worth the risk, soon as that petrol touchs the hot manifold, your f**ked!

oh!! cheers for for your advice, worrying as it may be!!!! i ll go get a new hose at lunchtime then :o
