Hi, I am new to the forum and a new owner of a mk 3 16v,
my previous car was a 2.0 8v, which is in perfect condition body wise, I have given it to my daughter, the 16v is a different animal altogether,20k less mileage but the body is crap, namely the front of each sill has had a poor repair on it with the plastic covers being ripped aside instead of removed. there are bubbles elsewhere on the car but they arent peforated so will be easy to sort. is this unusual for a mk3 or was I just very lucky with the 8v?
the other thing is the gear selector, its pot luck which gear you get, does anyone know how to adjust this?

I just bought a mk3 8v (95) and it has one or two wee bubbles too. I must admit i never nticed them till a few days later, cos it was raining when i saw the car and rain hides a lot.
They aren't bad tho, so i suppose not bad for a 12 year old car, its red btw - maybe a weak point.
Some cars are used near coastal areas and you might not know this, these cars often have rust in funny places!
My gearshift is notchy/rubbery but not loose. I often get 5th instead of 3rd when overtaking, so I want to know too how to align the mech . Im still looking for a e-manual for the mk3 on the net, no luck finding a freebie tho. Guess i'll just have to buy a haynes lol.
The best rust convertor bar none - is hammerite kurust, £5 a bottle from car accessory shops. Stops rust dead and turns it into blackish blue shiny metal in minutes.
