Title: Mk2 GTi not starting
Post by: filthy on 26 January 2007, 20:55
Great! I've had the car for less than a week and its sat dead on my drive

It had a slight misfire, but was running strong until thursday, when it was missing badly....

got it home and it would run for a couple of seconds then cut out...

this has progressed to not starting at all now.....

Have covered plugs, leads, coil, fuel pump, dizzy cap, and have put another airbox with airflow meter etc ( its a K-jet 8valve) on it

Anyone got any ideas? everyones giving me grief about buying a Rotter and I'm stumped!

Have you checked the timing? make sure that the dizzy is securely held in position. If its a bit loose, it could be that the timing has gradually got further and further out. Just a suggestion in case that is something you haven't checked.
Cheers,
Sam.

right, got it running today, but was running rough- further investigation revealed that fuel was only getting to 2 cylinders.....I reckon the fuel distributor is knackered, so got one from the scrappy, and its even worse- no fuel to any cylinders now.....gonna try cleaning out the original one and trying it during the week..
