Title: Car Will lock but wont unlock?!
Post by: ROB3611 on 26 January 2007, 10:05
The central locking is now driving me crazy on my 16v, it will lock off the alarm fob but wont open? Anyone want to throw their hat in the ring as to why this may be happening?

I'm not an electrics guy at all, in fact i hardly know anything about them, check a haynes manual if you have one, maybe check the fuses havnt blown and make sure your battery isnt dead, that's all i can think of to be honest.

Ok,

The fob sends one of two coded radio signals to the car, to unlock or lock.

It sounds like only one of two things wrong.

1. The fob is faulty, so only the lock signal is sent.

2. The immobiliser has a faulty output to the door locking solenoids, maybe a wire off etc, so it can only operate it in one direction.

Does it unlock all doors off the car key? If not the solenoid or door switch may be the problem but if it does, its fob or immob.

The car will unlock of the key but it takes a couple of turns to get the locks to open, they unlock when you apply pressure whilst turning but then re-lock with no key turn. I think its more likely the locking mech of the car as opposed to the alarm/fob but cheers for the advice, think I may have to bite the bullet and strip the doors down.
