Right currently the car is in the air looking sorry for itself bottom line is for a few weeks now the power steering has been squeeling like buggery so i decided today to go out and buy a new belt and change it.
Anyway cut a long story short and various foul words from the english language i now have the new belt on BUT my steering is stupidly stiff, as soon as i drive round a corner the steering goes heavy. Now i have put all the bolts back in the right places and when i start the engine the belt is turning the pump etc so im lost? is it a case of it being to lose still or overtightend perhaps??
Someone please help my patience is wearing thin lol

You may have over tightened the belt.
there should be about 5mm of deflection if it is correctly tensioned.

Right its ok when im driving but as soon as i sit still or let it idle and try and turn the wheels its really stiff? Im really on my last few steps before i start smashing sh!t.
UPDATE
I put the old BOSCH belt back on and ive got no problems, steering works altho when doing manouvers like parking etc its squeeling. Replacement belt was bought from GSF and by the looks of things that is the cause of my problems seeing as no matter what i did be it loosen or tighten it just wasnt turning the pump.

sounds like the belt maybe too lose, and getting no drive to the pump, have you overlayed the old and new belts to check there size?

Yep identical apart from the tooth pattern the bosch belt had lots of little teeth wheras the GSF one had thicker and less teeth. Just gona go to Vw or whateva and get a replacement bosch belt and new tensioners
