Title: hello everyone!
Post by: cagedanimal on 25 January 2007, 17:24
newbie just found this site and forum. similar message to savagegti really, after many a year sat behind the wheel of vauxhalls and leased hondas, my 2yrs without my own insurance are up and my hand has been forced to buy a motor of my own - to me this clearly has to be the Golf - the iconic hot-hatch!

so far i have clearly worked out it's gotta be GTI or VR6, and its gotta be mk3 or mk4, anyone got any tips or some do's and dont's before i commit to buy my very 1st ?? i would welcome and appreciate some pointers...  Geoff.

Welcome mate, out of the two i'd go for a mk 4 but you will probably get loads of others telling you to f*ck that off and get a mk2!!!

Have a look about on the forum and you will see that without a doubt the mk2 is most popular and in my eyes (although I drive a mk4) is deffinately the coolest

Good luck with the search

hello and welcome

out of the two cars it would have to be either the Mark 3 VR6 or the Mark 4 1.8 T. All depends on what you want from the car, 1.8 T has more tuning potential, a remap for example would bring the power to around the 200bhp mark costing you about £500 ish. Prob best to test drive one of each and see what you think.
