Hi,
Yesterday I picked up my new '02 Golf 1.9 GT TDI 150.
When driving it home, the first 20 miles or so were great. I found myself going up a hill on the motorway in the outside lane and powering my way up it. However, I suddenly lost all power and had to slow down and couldn't really get any quicker than 65mph after that.
On getting home, i had a think then went out for another spin - hey presto the power was back. (On reading this forum it seems not too uncommon). Today again I was on the motorway and lost power again, this time i wasn't doing anything miraculous, just driving along in 5th doing 75mph.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is it an expensive fix?
Is there a technical name for this problem so i can do some research?
I'm rather pee'd off at the moment and the garage i bought it from 150 miles away aren't being too helpful. I am now thinking my £6k snip may not be so much of a snip.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Did you get warranty?

I got a 12 month warranty although the company it's through (Olympic Warranties) are apparently cowboys. Will be calling the garage tomorrow and asking what they can do. Not sure how big a job it'll be though

Limp mode?
Sounds like possible problem with the MAF. Check out the TDI forum, it's in the mk4 forum elsewhere in these hallowed pages. A similar problem is being discussed as we speak...

Our old GTi Diesel suffered from this problem. It was sent to the stealers as it was a company car. I thionk they reset the ecu as it was reading a fault.
Not sure if that helps. Nothing to serious I seem to remember.
