Post by: mic on 20 January 2007, 08:12
no particular reason other than curisosity, which would you prefere out of the 2?
it be nice to have a turbo, but im guessin there be plenty of 'up and go' in a VR6

G60 is a much stronger engine, but is harder to find and supercharger needs rebuild every 60,000.

The Corarrdo VR6 is a 2.9 with more bhp, while the MK3 VR6 is only a 2.8 VR6 with less bhp. Also a Golf VR6 donor will have more of a chance of being thrashed by a previous owner.

does a vr6 highline have slightly more or not?

VR6 all the way.
The 2.9 is just under 200 bhp out the box and if that isnt quick enough then stick a charger on there aswell.

G60 is much easier to upgrade performance, the block i very well built (takes a thrashing), out the box is 160bhp and lighter than a vr6. And the engine on the outside is much the same, so no butchering of the front subframe and will make a great noise. If it were me and my money look at an s3 engine and box 280bhpish.

s3 engine? i'll assume thats not a straight fit?

G60 or VR6??? VR6 everyday.

As for which is less thrashed - an engine swap really isn't worth it unless its been rebuilt in the first place regardless of whether its a G60 or VR6 or 1.8T.

Better the devil you had rebuilt properly than a engine off Ebay that you know nothing about.

I agree.
I havent had a stereo in my VR for months and I'm not caring at all... that VR roar is the sweetest sound and very addictive.
