On the 8v Golf Gti (1990) engine, above the oil filter there is a metal block. On this there is a wire attached. My wire is off as the spade connector is broken. Any ideas what this is? I have noticed that on my MFA indicator nothing appears for the oil temp. Is this what the wire is for?
-
think that is common for it to come off.
re-conect it. should be the oil temp or oil pressure on the MFA.
-
I would say thats definetly what it is... If its a single wire its normally connected to a thermister which would realte to a temp gauge of some sort and as your oil temp isnt working.......
-
To be honest the whole MFA indicator is up sh1t creek the now ever since the battery died. Blue Mk2 gave me the idea of pulling the fuse and when its put back in it should hopefully reset. Fingers crossed.
Can you replace the sensor as the spade has snapped off mines?
-
Yep just find the use and pull it, it will reset completely back to normal..
Mines shagged at the moment as my alternator wasnt charging (damn fan belts) i just dont know which fuse to pull!!
Euro car parts probably do the sensors.. Should only be a few quid.
-
Could be the start of a new thread me thinks :)
-
think its one of the 3 fuses from the right of the fuse box. cant remember which one exactly
sensor should'nt be too expensive for a new one. mine needs replacing. My car has no-end of problems >:(
-
Touch wood mines is generally a good old dog. A few small silly problems but it is 14 years old so a few minor faults is to be expected.
-
yeah.
I dont really mind things going wrong. Thats the whole reason to have a mk1 or mk2 Gti in the first place :)
-
As long as they aint expensive to fix. I just bought a house so I got rid of my 2001(Y) Seat Ibiza Cupra 20vt.
Bought the Golf to keep me mobile. Cheap and still a good car to own.

even if the rev counter doesnt work. use the MFA hidden feature...
Switch ignition on,
Hold MFA button in,
Switch ignition off (still with MFA button pressed)
start the car and let go of the MFA button.
Should enter you into a hidden menu. Select '2' on the mfa stalk. scroll through the menu till you find your revs.
I love that menu ;D

I'll be trying that. Sounds pretty sh1t hot
