I had a phone call this evening from the guy who brought my Mk4 Golf and he said it was stolen. No broken glass, just vanished.
OK, I know a car being stolen isn't exactly front page news, but I wondered how safe the Mk5 Golf is and whether its any more secure?

I have had my gti for 15 months and have still not heard the alram go off?????
I have even locked myself in the car and still nothing, i should really check this out :undecided:
-
Try locking it with the remote, leave it a few mins, then open it by key. All hell should break loose, but that will be the contact on the doors. Interior motion sensors should set it off if you lock yourself in as you describe, unless it doesn't have any????
-
I tried locking my girlfriend in when we went to pick it up and watched her jump around wildly for several minutes to no avail - very amusing though
-
Thinking about it, I should probably check that it works and know what it sounds like
-
I had never heard the alarm go off in either my Mk5 GTI or Mk5 R32 until Sunday when it went off once - then yesterday when it went off three times in 10 minutes after I'd parked up and gone inside my house   Maybe you guys should stop talking about this topic because i reckon you've jinxed me
-
on my new car, the alarm was only ever set off by buses passing, but after the interior sensors were turned down, I sleep through the night now!
-
2007GTI - Did you get the stealer to alter the sensitivity of the sensors then?
-
yes I did after some hassle, its all documented here:

Apparently, here in BURY,
a man got car-jacked for his MK5 GTI on Monday night.
Early reports say that he was also stabbed, but i can't confirm if the stabbing is true or not.
Incidently, are the 18inch Monzas really sought after by theives?
Got a friend a owns a Fiesta ST, and he found his car jacked up on bricks a week ago, and exactly the same thing happened to another friend who drives a Fiesta Zetec-S, and its not an isolated incident with the Fiesta ST alloys cos i remember EVO and Tope Gear magazine both having their alloys nicked on their long-term Fiestas, so was wondering if anything similar has happened to GTI owners?

Deliberately set my alarm off - after the dealer said it was an immobiliser only. ;) Just had to prove to myself it had one!
I also have no idea where my locking wheel nut is...assuming locking wheel nuts come as standard on the 18"s!!!
P~

locking wheel nut will be with your divvy spare mini wheel under the boot base my friend
-
Thought I`d try the alarm after reading this..........so locked meself in, and threw my (not inconsiderable ) weight around.
The alarm went off - eventually. But I had to grab hold of the steering wheel and really thrash around before it went off. Hopefully, no-one saw :embarassed:
Can this be right ??

Thanks Phil - I think I have only opened the boot once in the last fortnight of ownership...and opened the bonnet NEVER! :D I really should learn how you open the bonnet...
