Title: 1.8 Engines? What's the score?
Post by: RaKeR on 17 January 2007, 19:37
Hi guys,

How tunable is the 1.8 8V engine in the Mark 3s?  Is the ECU chip replace for example?  How different, other than the obvious size, is it to that of the 2.0 8V of the GTI?

Anybody had any good reports from tuning one of these?

Thanks in advance.

Si.

Single Point Injection.....need i say more!! they ain't really tuneable but an exhaust and air filter are a start and don't expect gti performance unless you bin the motor

Ah right - of course they are!

No - not looking for gti performance bit more on hills and motorway overtaking thatn my Jetta 1600 really.

So filter and 'zorst then.

Will the full system fit off a gti at all?  Or would the manifold require changing to the 2.0?

I know the middle and backbox from the 1.8 is identical to the gti 8v one.....As the exhaust of my old 1.8 is now fitted to my 8v

I'm not saying its necessarily the right thing to do but.....on fifth gear. They fitted a 50bhp shot opf Nitrous to a 1.8 8v Driver. It worked by flicking a switch which then meant you could activate The Nitrous off the foot pedal...There was actually quite a difference in power (As you'd expect) But I dont know how long the engine would put up with the extra strain.
I've got the same problem as you though, my driver just feels a bit groggy....I need it to be able to build up the revs quicker and then I'd be sorted. I'll keep looking and if I find anything I'll let you know
If you find anything b4 me could you let me know?
