since I've owned this car for the last 2 and a half years I've been using Castrol's RS 0W-40 oil because I got a sh!t load of it.
What oil should I be using and what's everyone else using?
-
RS is fully synthetic aint it? the grade is far too thin for a golf, u need to be using 10w30 at least
VAG silver synta is what you want
semi-synthetic, 10w40
-
I use 10w40 is that any good?
A mate from a vauxhall garage gave me boxes of this oil, any good in my engine?
-
my dad told me to use fully synthetic in the gti else it makes an annoying tapping sound???
-
Should I use Magnatec 10W-40?
-
Great minds think alike eh Dizzie :)

ah sorry. I didnt' see that there.
I think I'll be using some magnatec when I get to work as mine is VERY low. at least my drive to work is 12 miles so I'm not doing that many short runs. :)
-
I've run mine on Mobil Motorsport and thats been fine. Thats a 15W50. The intial number refers to the viscosity the later the heat range.
I've run this as its what goes in the race cars in the workshop and we have loads of the stuff....never had a problem!! :)
The stuff that comes in for servicing though would be done with VAG synta 10W40

ive heard varied reports on Magnatec, some swear by it others say its a pile of poo and makes engines sound even more rattley
personnally id only use VAG Silver Synta - if its good enough for VAG to use as standard on their fleet then its good enough for my mk2
-
i use VAG silver sytha in my polo and my golf

5 finger discount :P
