Post by: veeeight on 15 January 2007, 23:30
Any idea why my power steering squeals when on full lock? It happens with either lock. Danny.

Your PAS belt is knackered- new one is about 3 quid from GSF, takes 10 mins to fit

it will squeel on full lock, you're putting the pump under load.  The owners manual specifically tells you not to hold it at full lock ;)

I'll take the advice re changing belt. I've driven many cars with power steering and never had one squeal under full lock. I think there would be a lot of irate motorists if they did this constantly and loudly!

PS. The power steering is an add on along with the 2ltr bottom end, consequently -  no owners manual to advise me of the perils of full lock.
