Ps. I don't want to buy a golf for a first because I will probabley crash it when its tuned :(

Anyone??? What about honda civic ek because there cheap but you need body kit because lowering it probabley wouldn't be enough...... Im thinking maybe a 206 and wait till im 19/20 and get a decent golf

Welcome to the forum
I'd say get a non GTI Golf, preferably a Mk2  but if you want a newer one then see if you can get a Mk4. Then any styling bits you change on it you can transfer onto a GTI when you can insure one.

If you after some thing cheap on insurance and juice why not look at a mk3 1.4 - 1.6 chuck on a set of standard gti wheels (cheap on ebay) slam it to the weeds on a cheap suspension kit and there you go mate. Looking good for not a lot of cash. And if you get a nice base car looking clean to....... Ditch the civic idea mate go vw and you will not look back if you get a good one....

Gotta be a MK2 golf matey im afraid
a 1.3 with all the tricks , GTI suspension and Brakes , Some choise body mods
If you look on the main site there are some smart MK2s you could steal some ideas from
Dont follow the crowds OLD SCHOOL RULES
Plus once all the suspension and body mods are done youll be in aperfect position to drop in a 20v Turbo or VR6 lump
An sorry to sound like an old man , im 23 , but youll only crash if you drive like a TW*T

hello and welcome
I got a mark 2 golf 1.6 driver as my first car, lowered it 55mm, big bumpers, it already had some OZ wheels on, GTI interior and was a belter of a car. reliable and cheap to run.

welcome to the fourm hun

I'd agree, go for a small engine/non-GTI Mk2 first. Get your insurance down, then go for something a little more powerful later.
I started off with a Mk2 1.8 GL, little belter it was too.
Welcome too.

mine is only a 1.4 and i think many agree it looks far better than your average 1.4.
Something like mine would be a great first car, or a mk2 1.3 for the older skool look. Otherwise, look at a polo as well. You'l get a 1 litre or 1.1 polo which will be nippy enough and can still look cool.

Welcome.
Yea a Mk 2 Driver is a good bet or a smaller engined Mk 3.

Hey, i have just got a oak green mk2 golf gti . Its got quick shift, shrick cam, chipped, full stainless exhaust, its slammed on full gemax suspension, momo steerin wheel, white dials, its got the 2 light grill on ot insted of the 4. Its looks good. The bloke i got it off is a bit of a tit  the clutch is shot on it rear calipers fcuk'd, and it needs a few bits here and there for its mot which i can do because i work in a garage.....not a bad car for £200 is it? Heres my problem, its a 5 door and i keep comparin it to the 3 doors which i think look better. is there anything else i can do to the inside and outside of my 5 door to make it look even better? is this possible
cheers

Im 20 now and been driving since i was 17 and i got refused insurance on my recently purchased golf Mk2 GTi 16v til im 21, luckily for me thats only a couple of weeks time but it might be something to consider taking into account if your of that age (just guessing here).

hummm....well now ive gone old skool too i'd say a small engined mk2 or mk3
i had a ford orion back at 17, and to be honest i wish i got a VW looking back at it now.
fairly bulletproof, generally easy to work on yourself (which is the big plus point for most things)
and fairly cheap to do up to a decent spec without paying over the odds.
insurance is gonna be a killer whatever tho....
-
oki :( I think ide rather get a mk3 because as my insurance comes down I will tune it abit :) Or I might end up doing it up then selling it for a vr6 because what ive seen off them is awsome.... (when im older :P)
