A fair few things m8 ,
Rust problems Drivers door-Surface rust (there so cheap on ebay seems easier to replace?)
Rear Tailgate has a fair amount of rust above and underneath number plate (seem cheap enuff 2nd to simply replace ?)
One bottem arch has a small 5p size hole i poked with my finger and went through (i've got a mate whos really good with fiberglass and spraying who could prob do it for me)
The MFA computer thing works fine but the water temp gage doesn't seem to rise or fall? btw wat should the oil temp be on the computer?
Paints faded and or some point been badly resprayed on the Rear quater panel, i'll get some cutting componds and have a go myself see if i can get it back to shine instead of its current matt finish lol
The main problem and the reason i got the car so cheap is because it doesn't run properly , it needs like 1.6-2k to pull away without stalling and does't rev after around 4k (only if u put ur foot half way it will rev all the way) although the engine is fine no smoke at all even at high revs and starts and drives great i am 100% its a timing/air/fuel problem, some help with this would be great if i could fix it myself guys as i really couldn't afford to buy this car as but i just wanted a mk2 for so long lol , im fairly good with mechanical stuff so :D i hope its more simple than other modern cars i've worked on , it drives surprising solid for somthing that seems so old? lol
The suspension and handling feels great , the interior is in VERY good should very clean
But yeah so its needs a fair amount, but im ready to go

Any ideas on these idle problems guys? its idles at 1k and seems reluctant to pull past 4k unless i put my foot half way on the accel instead of all the way? i think it migth be a fueling or air problem? is there a common prob to look for? i checked in the infor section but didn't see anything
but i am not sure if its the timing? , it needs a fair amout of revs to pull away at 1.8-2k min and will stall on anything lower , i tried to adjust lower than 1k but it will simply stall
?

Hi, I think I'd start with a full service, includeing a decent set of plug leads! before any other diagnosis was put into action..
"One bottem arch has a small 5p size hole i poked with my finger and went through (i've got a mate whos really good with fiberglass and spraying who could prob do it for me)"
If your looking as a long term project, I would get the arches welded, and not fibre glassed... should last years, instead of months...
Looks like a good base as a project car though, hope you enjoy it...

its sounds like the timing is up the left on it

the plugs and that actually look fairly fresh but seemed a bit loose, i've barly had a look at the car in the dayligth as i get home from work at 7:30 and get up at 6:25 :(
what weigth oil we need for these guyS? i'll try and drop the oil stuff over the weekend , how much i need? I use silicone full Syn Pro s in my other car , from opie oils (can't recommend them higher)
Hmm , i'll ask my m8 , he had a massive hole on his xr2i of rust near the fuelcap and he repaired it to amazing standard , and i am not talking boy racer with a spray can standard i am talking actual looked a good bodyshop job , i am sure welding is best but atm cash is very low and migth do this in the future thx for the advise those m8

The timing is up on the left ? is this do-able myself? would a garage want alot fo this?

find a local VW specialist and take it to them to set it up. should only cost you about £25-30
check back of Performance VW and Golf+ magazines to find local vw specialists

25-30 ? sounds quite cheap, anyone wouldn't happen to recommend a cheap honest VW mech round Londonish way? i don't mind traveling a bit for a good one , im located in Dartford,Erith,Belvedere Kinda area if that helps
Oil wise? wats choice ppl go with on here? was gonna order some today, u guys use Fully Syn?Semi?thin?thick?Mobil?Silicone?

Use genuine oil filters and VW's Synta Silver oil. You can't go wrong with that combination. Bit cheaper from GSF than at the stealers aswell.

I pressume thats simply semi syn? ok , i though most ppl on here would use high performance oils? or are these not really suited to cars of this age? they need thicker stuff ?
-
Yep, Semi Synthetic. When I first used it the engine ran quieter and smoother. It's the best stuff for the older engines

K guys i'll give this stuff a go , where bouts is the engine plug? i've got a pair of trolly jacks but it can be a bugger to find on my other car the first time i did it ?
I'll give GSF a call today then since i don't think opie supply "VW" oil only brand names

You'll spot it easy enough towards the back of the sump
-
Did you buy this from some guy in Southampton? My dad was going to go down and take a look at it for me, but it had been sold by the time he rang up.
I got one in the end though. :)
-
Rofl yeah, he said you got stuck in traffic or somthing ? the day before?
-
No, wasn't me. That must have been someone else...
