ok it wasnt my clutch , the headgaskets gone between the 3rd n 4th cylinder big time! compression showed 4 bar which is abysmal lol. the noise i heard must be the pressure escaping.
what i want to know is who makes the best quality head gaskets . i used a gsf one last time and there pants tbh , given im gonna skim the head as well it needs to be thick enough to take up some of the gap lost. cars a 1.8 8v 1989 'pb' digifant mk2.
-
I would go for a genuine part especially if its a head gasket !
-
aye ive learnt the hard way lol , i just wanna know if theres a genuine 'metal' one that will fit , i.e a mk3 golf one possibly or somin. if not ill buy the genuine vw one.

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g2other.php (http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g2other.php) anyone know if the g60 metal headgasket will fit to the standard 1.8 - 8 valver?
-
It mite be different as the capacity of the two supercharged engines used in MK2's is different to the N/A ones
-
the metal g60 will be fine. i have one on my car.
-
thx joe , i thought it might be as the block etc is the same , ill stick one of those on after i get it skimmed then , its not much more and prolly will take alot more abuse to kill it :)
-
yup G60 gasket will work, although apparently they are ever so slightly thinner or thicker, I can't remember which.
-
id hazzard a guess at thicker , which is ideal as im having the head skimmed anyway :)
-
yeah most of the difference in CR is taken up by the pistons, its summat like 2mm if that...
-
Just found this on ClubGTI, was thinking 2mm was a bit much
1.9mm for normal.
1.6mm for G60.

Wait, wait. Toyotec recons its the other way round, I'll keep u posted
